Beanie Pops

The hush that fell over the Ohio State Buckeyes crowd was deafening last Saturday as their star running back went down with an apparent right foot injury. Buckeyes nation has had trouble sleeping wondering about the extent of the injury to Chris “Beanie” Wells’ preferred foot. These anxious thoughts have been recently quelled by Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel.

“…Worry about Gustav and Rita and those kinds of things. Beanie’s going to be fine,” remarked the head coach.

In the third quarter of their 43-0 victory over Youngstown state this past Saturday, Beanie fell backwards on his foot near the Youngstown goal line. While X-Rays have shown that nothing has been fractured or broken, Beanie did tell reporters that he heard something pop in his foot. “I may have rolled it or planted it wrong a play or two before…Then I think I felt a pop. But the X-Rays are OK, so we’ll see how it feels in a day or two.”

A day or two Buckeyes fans can wait… even a week or so. The Buckeyes have depth at running back and feel confident in their matchup against Ohio Bobcats this upcoming weekend. It’s the big matchup against number one ranked USC on September 13th that fans definitely want their “Beanie” back.

The Wolverines former offensive lineman Justin Boren is to take the field for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2009 season and this will further intensify the existing rivalry between the Ohio State and Michigan camps. The NCAA transfer rules permitted Boren to sit out the entire 2008 season and according to the coach of Ohio State, Jim Tressel, Boren is eligible to play in the 2009 season. The offensive footballer feels that the family values have now been lost in the Michigan camp and said that he is very much excited to be in Central Ohio.

Boren said that he was looking forward to playing for the Ohio State and is ready to put in his maximum to help his team attain greater heights in the 2009 season. It is very sad for the Michigan team to miss one of its strong offensive players as he has received several rare reviews for his speedy offensive runs and football skills from many former greats.

For Coach Joe Daniels, life dealt him a 180 degree turn when he finds that he is now the one who needs all the words of encouragement from his team. The veteran teacher who has been in the coaching business for the past 37 years, including seven productive years with the Ohio State team, is now taking a break to recuperate from cancer. He will take a backseat while the team practices this spring. Previously he has had a bad kidney removed in February as a result of the fast spreading disease.61 year old Daniels is looking his age, perhaps a little bit more as he gives his latest interview surrounded by supportive family members. Understandably, he does not look his best and this can be attributed from the taxing surgery as well as the strong medication he has to take. The latest update is out, and Nick Siciliano has been invited to take over Daniels’ job while he recuperates.
