Appalachian State University became the 1st university in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision to win its 3rd consecutive Football Championship Subdivision title, after defeating the University of Delaware 49-21. With their team unity leading the way, Mountaineers were able to take control of the match from the very beginning. On their 1st possession in the game, Kevin Richardson scored on a nineteen-yard pass from quarterback Armanti Edwards. The team’s defense was able to hold a very talented Delaware offense to only 2 touchdowns. Appalachian State University solidified their 3rd consecutive national championship late in the 4th quarter after Trey Elder scored on a 53-yard run.

Eastern Illinois University now is searching for an impact running back. Chevon Walker is a redshirt freshman announced that he planed to transfer to Eastern for the spring semester in order to help the Panthers in the first round of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs to overcome three years’ roadblock. The number of college football fans, who is still favoring the current system determining what team plays for the national championship, is shrinking. The time has come to kill the Bowl Championship Series format. The time has come for the NCAA to get with the times and adopt an 8-team, national championship playoff format. The decisions should be made on the field, as is done in every other major sport in the land

Gordon Moulton, President of University of South Alabama, is expected to recommend the implementation of an NCAA-sanctioned program at the university during the board of trustees meeting on December 6. Gordon Moulton feels very comfortable making a recommendation. In case the board of trustees accepts his recommendation and votes in its favor, an implementation committee is expected to immediately start making NCAA Football at the University a reality

Let’s look at a big NCAA Football game this weekend. Ohio State is still in the mix for the Bowl Championship Series, even though the team is sitting at home in the final days of the season. After the Buckeyes lost to the Fighting Illini a few weeks ago, analysts wrote of the Ohio State University’s chances at the BCS title. The Ohio State Buckeyes would play Michigan before their season ended and that wouldn’t be enough time to climb back up the Bowl Championship Series ladder, they argued. However, Ohio State is still in the game.

Offensive coordinator Calvin Magee from West Virginia has been named Assistant Coach of 2007 by the AFCA. Every year, staff representatives from NCAA and NAIA football playing schools nominate one assistant coach for consideration. Then, the winners are selected in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, the NAIA, NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, and Divisions II and III. This award was 1st presented in 1997.

Texas Christian University athletic director stated that head coach Gary Patterson is probably on a few programs’ lists as a potential replacement at the positions at the University of Arkansas and Georgia Tech. Danny Morrison, athletic director, said it would surprise him to find out that Gary Patterson was not on any teams’ lists, however, he declined to talk about job speculation. The end of the season already features ten universities with available head coaching positions. Since Gary Patterson took over TCU football (in 2000), he has had 4 10-win seasons, 6 trips to bowl games, and a likely invitation to another bowl match this season.
