It looks like Preston Parker, who is the Florida State team receiver is not completely in the clear yet. He cannot afford to be relieved even after having a petty theft charge against him dropped, and still have remaining weapons charges to keep him occupied and out of the regular Florida State game play. Earlier in the year 2006, he was found guilty of shoplifting. It was said that he stole a $9.99 DVD movie from a rental store located in Tallahassee. To be free from the misdemeanor charges, he recently paid $200 in fine to the court earlier this week.

But that was not the end. In early April, Parker was again arrested in possession of marijuana amounting to less than 20 grams. He was also unlucky enough to be found with a loaded .45 caliber pistol hidden within his car’s dash board. Florida State has made it clear that the weapons charge must be eliminated before he is able to return to the team.

So pleased is Penn State with 81 year old Joe Paterno’s performance that they both agree that the football coach does not require a new contract to continue what he does best at Penn State.

Currently, Paterno’s contract ends at the end of the 2008 season but that does not mark the end to his career with the Nittany Lions. Graham Spanier, the University president was quoted as saying that Paterno’s  seniority is more than enough to convince them that he needs no mere contract to stay on with Penn State. He entered his 43rd season as Penn State’s coach and has brought many victories to the Nittany Lions.

Joe Paterno was quoted as saying that he will be comfortable with whatever decision the University came up with and will continue to be the guiding light for the Nittany Lions.

The Washington Capitals made full use of their first trip to Nashville in four years by beating the home team by 4-2 last Tuesday night and the star player for the Washington Capitals was Alexander Ovechkin who scored a goal and had two assists as well. This was the 58th goal of Alexander in his NHL career and it was an empty netter as well. The Oregon State wide receiver and a senior in the team, Sammie Stroughter, has been granted permission to play in the 2008 NCAA football season following a medical hardship grant for 2007, according to the announcement by the Pac-10 conference on Friday. Stroughter was pitted to be the top player by many gurus of the game last season, but could not take up playing during the fall camp due to some personal problems last season. Stroughter did come back after settling all his problems to play for the Oregon state but even this stint was a brief one as he was sidelined with a kidney injury that kept him out of the game for the rest of the season.

Stroughter will have to fight his way all through the spring practice session in order to find the form that he was in during the 2006 season. He had a record of 74 passes caught for 1,293 yards in the 2006 season and had also made 3 touchdowns on punt returns. He is regarded by many greats as a very capable receiving and punt return player and his remarkable 70 yarder against the USC that helped his Oregon State to defeat the Trojans 27 game winning streak is still fresh in the minds of many Oregon fans.

The Michigan University, in the wake of a veteran’s paralyzed group suing them for lack of facilities to the disabled people, has decided to improve the wheel chair accessibility in the nation’s biggest football stadium. A deal was signed by the US District Judge Sean Cox that the school will provide all the facilities in an attempt to avoid a trial. This season will see an addition of 96 accessible seats along with companion seats at the eastern side of the stadium. By the start of 2010 season, 329 accessible and companion seats as well as seats in the student section will be made available.

The agreement signed by the district judge says that the court will oversee the facilities provided by the University for a period of 5 years. The disabled fans will be able to watch the football games at the Michigan stadium in the same manner as the other fans and they will also be able to enjoy themselves, as per the attorney of the Paralyzed Veterans of Michigan State. The university also has plans to work with architects in order to improve wheelchair accessibility of restrooms, parking lots and access routes. The stadium earlier had a separate enclosure of 90 seats for the disabled people but the school is planning to have these seats distributed throughout the stadium.
