11 against 4

It’ll be the number 11 Florida Gators hosting the number 4 LSU Tigers this weekend in an NCAA football matchup. And while each team’s respective offensive and defensive units are absolutely solid, coaches, critics, players, and fans feel that the determining factor of the game will come down to the special teams.

The belief is supported by outcome of the last two meetings between these powerhouse schools. The last two meetings were decided by significant contributions from each side’s special teams. In the 2007 season, LSU scored the go-ahead points on a fake field goal touchdown play en route to their 28-24 victory. The year before that, the Florida Gators won 23-10 after forcing a fumble on a second half kickoff, recovering a muffed punt, and blocking a punt attempt.

This year, both teams have extremely talented (and somewhat diminutive) kickoff/punt return specialists. LSU’s Trindon Holliday (5′5″) is the second best in the country with punt returns (average 25.1 yards) and leads his team in kickoff returns (averaging 24 yards). Florida’s Brandon James (5′7″) is seventh in punt returns (20.5 yards) and 11th in kick returns (30 yards). Each returner is explosive, agile, and can change the outcome of the entire game with one move. Look for the game to balance on the shoulders of these two players.

And, as a bit of added incentive for the war between these two teams, the winner of their last two meetings went on to be victorious in the National Championship Game. Just something to think about when you watch the game this Saturday at 8 pm ET.

It was 14-3 at halftime last Saturday in a match between two sets of Tigers: those from LSU and those from Auburn. Number 5 ranked LSU was down at halftime (literally and mentally) after their offense was consistently stymied by the number 20 Auburn defense. But head coach Les Miles wouldn’t let that fact deter his team from victory.

After a motivated speech in the locker room that stressed the fact “We’ve been here before,” a new LSU team emerged. Neither the score nor the oppressive shouts of an Auburn crowd could hold the physical nature of the LSU team or the cunning mind of the LSU coach.

After the Auburn special teams returned the second half kickoff to the LSU 19, it seemed like things were turning worse for LSU. Not so. The LSU lineman drove the Auburn squad back out of field goal range. The next drive, replacement quarterback Jarrett Lee drove down Auburn territory, completing the drive with a 39-yard touchdown pass.

Then the tricks began. The following kickoff, Miles ordered the onside kick which was successfully recovered. Though they were unable to progress the ball, the LSU defense intercepted a 4th and 1 pass on the next Auburn drive. From there, trick number two guided the LSU Tigers to another touchdown as running back Keiland Williams threw a 22-yard pass to Demetrius Byrd for a touchdown.

Between crafty plays and dominating LSU offensive and defensive lines, Miles and his Tigers went on to beat Auburn 26-21 and once more prove why they won the National Championship last year.

The dismissed LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux is on the hot favorite list of many schools and Coach Rick Comegy of Count Jackson state is going all out in an attempt to pursue Perrilloux to visit the campus so that he could be signed on to play for their team. The NCAA football player Perrilloux can start playing once he transfers to a Football sub divisional team and is about to finish his spring semester at the LSU that will make him eligible to play during the next season. There are reports that Alabama and Valdosta State along with Jacksonville State are going all out to sign Perrilloux into their team for the next season.

Les Miles, the coach of Louisiana State University is unhappy as his team is starting the spring training with out two quarterbacks. Matt Flynn and Ryan Perriloux were the back bones of this team who are the defending national champions. The tigers expected Matt Flynn’s absence in this season as he has become a senior with 5years experience and wanted to try his luck in NFL this year. But, they were without any clue that they will be forced to play this season with out Ryan Perilloux, who got suspension for violating the rules of the team.

Perilous is facing the third suspension within last one year. Coach miles do not want to spend time by talking about perilloux instead he has planned to focus on the new guys who want to be with the team. Though, perilloux made good start in the last season, his nasty behavior and pranks over shadowed his on - field performance. Last summer, he got suspension for entering a casino using a bogus identification card and got one day suspension, later that season for his misbehavior in a night-club. According to Miles discipline is a major issue for a team and is confident that he can create new leaders as well as play makers in the absence of Perilloux.

Somehow, the LSU Tigers were able to get out of Tuscaloosa with a victory last week. The team is 1 win away from locking up the SEC West division. They are in the Number 2 spot in the BCS rankings. Flynn’s 3 interceptions gave Alabama seventeen points and turned a blowout into a nail-biter that the LSU Tigers were fortunate to walk away from. LSU opposition in the SEC title game could be any number of teams, although, as the rest of the SEC is a complete mess. There are 8 SEC teams with either 2 or 3 losses in conference play and eleven of the twelve teams having overall winning records.
