The Florida Gators were in the East Room of the White House last week, meeting the President. He congratulated them on their victory, as well as on their service to the community. They also volunteer several hundred hours of their time each year. This cause Obama to say that “being a champion doesn’t just stop when the clock runs out”, which was certainly good for the players to hear. It was a nice day for them. In other news, Florida University is still going on with their spat with the NCAA about the academic dishonesty charges leveled against dozens of students, including quite a few athletes. It’s going to be hard for them to refute this, so they’re approaching it as “it’s unfair to punish so many people because of the deeds of the few”. It’s not clear whether this will influence the decision, especially if the rules were clear beforehand.
