Billy Canon was among the 15 members who were elected to the College Football Hall of Fame by the National Football Foundation and the irony is that Canon is being elected to the College Hall of Fame for the second time. The first time that Canon was voted into the Hall of Fame was in the early 80’s, but had to forfeit the honor after he was charged and arrested for federal counterfeiting. He was sentenced to five year imprisonment and served for 2 ½ years in jail.

This time round Billy Canon has expressed him willingness to participate in the December’s induction banquet in New York and said that he was happy that he has been selected to the Hall of Fame. Canon said that there were several players in the 1958 national title winning team who needed to be elected to the Hall of Fame. Canon has received good reviews and accolades for his play during his stint at the NCAA football championships.

It looks like Georgia Southern have got into the NCAA’s bad books recently when their football team failed to secure three scholarships. NCAA will be penalizing the team as they are not performing up to standards set by the strict organization. They also did not reinforce rules to keep their athletes academically-inclined. In comparison, Georgia Tech and University of Georgia were praised when statistics show that they exceeded the NCAA’s minimum academic development rate for every sport. Cal State Sacramento also received warnings and punishments when seven of their overall teams did not meet the NCAA’s standards for churning out optimal athletes.

The Wolverines former offensive lineman Justin Boren is to take the field for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2009 season and this will further intensify the existing rivalry between the Ohio State and Michigan camps. The NCAA transfer rules permitted Boren to sit out the entire 2008 season and according to the coach of Ohio State, Jim Tressel, Boren is eligible to play in the 2009 season. The offensive footballer feels that the family values have now been lost in the Michigan camp and said that he is very much excited to be in Central Ohio.

Boren said that he was looking forward to playing for the Ohio State and is ready to put in his maximum to help his team attain greater heights in the 2009 season. It is very sad for the Michigan team to miss one of its strong offensive players as he has received several rare reviews for his speedy offensive runs and football skills from many former greats.
