Louisiana State University beat Ohio State 38-24 to win the national championship. They had a wild run to the championships. They lost twice in three overtimes, and took many fourth-down risks.  In the season there was no team that was on the top position for very long. In the end however Louisiana State University played brilliantly on the day it had to.

President Bush honored the team on Monday and lauded the success of the team in the championships. Some of the best contributors of the team were quarterback Matt Flynn and defensive standout Glenn Dorsey. Les Miles, the coach of the team was praised by bush as a strong leader and a risk taker. The football team became two time champions for the first time in the history of Bowl Championship series. They were also the first to be defeated in two games in the championship season. LSU had fallen behind 10-0 but scored 31 unanswered points to bag the championship.
