The head coach of the Michigan team, Rich Rodriguez, walked into the spring practice stadium on Saturday wearing his navy cap with an M on the front of the cap. The head coach has been hired from West Virginia and the Michigan fans are hoping that he will do some work on the out of date and predictable offensive tactics of the team. Rodriguez, after the first practice session, said that he felt a bit ugly sometimes and felt a bit motivated and encouraged at other times during the session and the players soon realized the importance of speed with the drills that the coach is trying to instill in them.

Rodriguez has been asking the Michigan boys to bring in a lot of speed in their game and feels that the players have to do a lot to get in shape that are needed for such practice sessions. Rodriguez concentrated on the quarter backs and the running backs of the Wolverines in his early part of the first practice session. He said that quarterback is an important position in the team and hence focus will be given to the quarterbacks in the team. The Oregon State wide receiver and a senior in the team, Sammie Stroughter, has been granted permission to play in the 2008 NCAA football season following a medical hardship grant for 2007, according to the announcement by the Pac-10 conference on Friday. Stroughter was pitted to be the top player by many gurus of the game last season, but could not take up playing during the fall camp due to some personal problems last season. Stroughter did come back after settling all his problems to play for the Oregon state but even this stint was a brief one as he was sidelined with a kidney injury that kept him out of the game for the rest of the season.

Stroughter will have to fight his way all through the spring practice session in order to find the form that he was in during the 2006 season. He had a record of 74 passes caught for 1,293 yards in the 2006 season and had also made 3 touchdowns on punt returns. He is regarded by many greats as a very capable receiving and punt return player and his remarkable 70 yarder against the USC that helped his Oregon State to defeat the Trojans 27 game winning streak is still fresh in the minds of many Oregon fans.

Andy Christensen, the Nebraska offensive lineman, was accused of sexually exploiting a woman in a bar and has been put behind the bars for the same. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday at the brass rail bar. A 23 year old woman has alleged that Andy had approached her from behind and put his hand underneath her clothing. The woman told what has happened to the police and Andy was arrested outside the bar. The charges that were framed against Andy Christensen are first degree sexual assault on a woman, failure to comply with the police officers and resisting the arrest, according to the Police Captain Joseph Wright.

The policeman Wright said that it was unclear whether Andy was under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred and said that all the formal charges will be framed on Monday as the prosecutors are yet to decide on the type of the charges to be levied on him. Nebraska coach Bo Pelini is totally upset at what has happened and has suspended the junior player from his team. He said that he will review the suspension order when more things come to light about the incident and said that this type of unruly behavior is not what he warranted from his offensive linebacker.
